Observance Rules
When a federal holiday falls on a Saturday, it is usually observed on the preceding Friday for pay and leave purposes. If a holiday falls on a Sunday, it is typically observed on the following Monday. This ensures that federal employees receive a paid day off regardless of which day of the week the holiday occurs.
Our USA Daily Calendar system automatically calculates these floating holidays (like Thanksgiving and Labor Day) to ensure you always have the correct information for your planning needs.
